One of the Senators, Philip Aduda had raised a motion urging President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill his party’s promise of paying N5,000 monthly to all unemployed Nigerian youths.
While the motion was seconded by Senator Godswill Akpabio, it generated a palpable stir, as APC senators tried by all possible means to discard the motion.
Aduda’s motion came on the heels of an earlier motion made by Senator Bassey Akpan (Akwa Ibom northeast) on the need to curb unemployment in Nigeria.
Akpan had said vices such as terrorism, kidnapping and armed robbery would be reduced if the nation’s unemployed youths were effectively engaged in gainful employment, urging the senate to call on the “federal government and sub-national governments to intensify their effort on employment generation activities in line with their various campaign promises”.
The motion was however adopted after some amendments were made to it and then adjourned to next Tuesday, November 10, 2015, by the senate.
